Rigid Testimonials

I consider Active Ankle braces to be second to none when is comes to performance and injury prevention. My teams and I have been using Active Ankle braces for the past 11 years. Thank you Active Ankle for keeping our players on the court.

— Bruce Atkinson

I felt an instant sense of support in the ankle area vs. a general “constricting” feeling from the previous brace, and noticed more flexibility in my walking/movement. Thank you so much for suggesting the T2, I was surprised at how much better it felt after continued use.

— Cheryl T

All my players wear the Active Ankle T2. The protection Active Ankle provides has been a great asset in keeping my players injury free on the court.

— Scott Dowis

I have had the opportunity to use your Active Ankle Brace for a variety of foot/ankle injuries treated both operatively and conservatively where controlled stabilization of pronation/supination was required during rehabilitation. It has been extremely well received by my patients affording the comfort, protection and confidence they need to speed return to activity and function. The Active Ankle Brace is particularly well suited for returning athletes to high demand sports, and I have had varsity lacrosse players report excellent results with minimal interference in their mobility while wearing the brace. Thanks for a great product.

We are believers! My daughter has worn the Active ankle T1 for 4 years, because she previously broke her ankle while playing basketball. She will not play without them. She is getting a scholarship for basketball to college! We believe because she has stayed healthy and wore her Active Ankles! Love the product can't thank you enough! I am also a registered nurse and promote your product to patients with sports injuries. Great product!!!

During the past 15 years of wearing Active Ankle braces, we have not had a single player miss a game or practice due to an ankle sprain! On occasion we have had some "near sprains" but the brace has prevented a much more serious injury time and time again, which over the years has translated into more wins for our program. Being innovative in brace technology year-in and year-out makes Active Ankle second to none in the industry! The Active Ankle staff has provided our program with reliable service each season that almost makes you feel as though they are right there in your training room working with your players too.

Thanks for sending the samples of your Active Ankle product line. The Active Ankle T2 that has the hinge we found to be very supportive and did not inhibit the running motion. It has received positive feedback and is currently being used by one of our running club members.

Thank you, they worked! I owe it to you guys to send you this quick email. I love playing b-ball, but after many ankle sprains and surgery on my left ankle, I had to give it up. There is nothing more painful than an ankle sprain. Well I found out about Active Ankle through a buddy at work who swore by his and decided to get some and have been wearing them for the past month. Tonight, I was playing and ended up landing on this dude's foot and went down with all my 200+ pounds on my left ankle. The braces held, my foot is just mildly sore and if I had had my other braces on, I'd be out for weeks. It probably sounds silly but I am so happy with these braces, and even more happy that I won't be limping tomorrow. Thanks, great product and worth every cent!

Active ankles just SAVED our starting leftside from being out of commission for a couple of weeks, as she landed right on our middle blockers foot. But rather she was a little tender for the day and able to practice right away. Had we not had your product on she would have been out for a LONG time!

In 1998 I ruptured multiple ligaments in my ankle while playing high school volleyball. The next year my doctor suggested I get a brace of some kind and I happened across the T2 active ankle. Today, as I looked over the very same brace I realized the thousands of hours this thing has gone through, the number of falls that never happened because of it and I am truly shocked, amazed, and thankful for such an outstanding product. Nothing ever holds up for 14 years...going on 15. In celebration I will be getting a new one to support your company but will keep my first. Perhaps bronzed? :)
Thank you again for such a great product!

— Former high school and college VB player and now current rec player

About 8 years ago while playing high school basketball I injured my left ankle very badly. My ankle didn't break but the doctor said the internal damage was irreversible and even with extensive therapy I would never fully recover. For the first time in my life what the doctor had told me was 100% correct. I went through seven months of therapy and peaked at 70% strength. I wore regular ankle braces on that ankle from then on out. About 1 year after that, I injured my right ankle almost identically playing tennis. I knew what I was in for and immediately began therapy again. But when I returned to the courts my coach was waiting on me with two contraptions I hadn't seen before. He told me if I wanted to continue playing sports for him or for myself in general, that I would have to wear these. It's been about 6 1/2 years now and I won't even go for a long walk without these on. I refer to them as my "Magic Shoes" in reference to Forest Gump. You guys are my savior and keep me doing what I absolutely love to do.

— Tyler

I am not an athlete. I work in construction and run a renovation company. Last week I severely twisted my ankle...I heard the pop when I fell. I tried the usual tensors and supports and found at the end of the day the bruising and swelling was excessive. I purchased one of your items and upon putting it on, I immediately noticed a difference in the pain management department. Don't misunderstand me, I fully understand that when you get injured you have to allow time for the body to heal. But when you have to produce...you have to produce. Your product makes my ankle feel like I can manage the day and feed my family. Thank you.

— Robert

I play in a fast sport where sprained ankles are the most common injury.  I’ve tried many solutions since I initially sprained my ankle, but nothing worked as well as the T2. Great product with great service is all a person can ask for.

Lace-Up Testimonials

Just wanted to say thank you again for sending me an Excel brace to try out with my athletes. I have been using it on my softball pitcher and she loves it. She has wore an ASO in the past and reports this brace is more comfortable to wear. I am seeing great wear out of the product, the dust and dirt haven't seemed to affect it in the least. A great quality bracethat is standing up well.

The Excel worked well for myself, I have been using it as a support for my sprained ankle as I continue my running. For our shop, the Excel would do well for most runners in need of a lighter support system. I believe we will use the Excel for future orders.

I met you during the volleyball tournament in Louisville, Kentucky. My daughter also plays catcher on her softball teams. The problem she was having were the shin guards did not fit comfortably over her active ankles with the hard plastic sides. You gave us one of the Lace-Up short ones with the velcro straps that wrap around like you would do when taping an ankle. This has worked out very well. My daughter likes it and is more comfortable knowing she has some support on the ankle. Her coaches like it as well and noted it does not look like she is going to roll her ankle as she runs the bases. Thank you again for talking to us and providing the brace to use. I would highly recommend to other catchers with ankle problems.

I have a large DWO brace. I love how light-weight it is and the fact that it sits on the dorsal side my arm/wrist.

— Matt Cross

I bought a Dorsal Night Splint last year and was very surprised that I had no pain when first getting out of bed in the morning. Every night I sleep with the DNS on my foot because I have very flat feet and Achilles Tendonitis. My doctor wants to repair the damage with surgery but I told him that I did not want surgery because of my age (87 years old). Thank God I have the DNS, no pain for one year!

The TFS cover is amazing! This is the best product and easiest solution for trigger finger. Thank you!!!!!

Rigid FAQs

What is the difference between a rigid brace and a lace-up brace?

The difference is really in level of protection. Rigid braces offer the highest level of preventative and post injury support while maintaining the full range of motion to perform at the most competitive level. Lace-up braces are the most affordable preventative support without sacrificing comfort or freedom of movement for athletes at all levels.

How long can I expect my Active Ankle rigid brace to last?

This answer is different for everyone and really depends on your personal activity level. If you are very active and play a team sport seasonally as well as other organized sports throughout the year, you should replace your Active Ankle brace every year. If you only use the Active Ankle brace occasionally for recreational sports, you may be able to keep your Active Ankle brace for at least 2 years or more depending on how hard you are on the braces. Think of our braces like a pair of athletic shoes. After a year or so, they will start to wear out and the Active Ankle brace wears out very much the same way.

How can I tell if my rigid brace is worn out and needs to be replaced?

Hold the brace upright in the palm of your hand, if the side supports fall over on their own the brace has lost its ability to provide maximum support and is too loose to continue to wear.

How are Active Ankle braces sized?

The braces are sized by shoe size. With rigid braces, you need to take into consideration the width of your foot as well. If you have a wider foot and are on the borderline between sizes, go up a size. The same if your foot is narrow, go down a size.

How do you wear the rigid ankle braces properly?

Make sure you place the ankle brace under the insole of your shoe with the logo facing out. See the fitting instructions demonstration videos for a precise and more comfortable fit.

Will the rigid ankle braces slow me down or impede my performance?

There is no evidence that this is the case. If anything Active Ankle braces can only help your performance by keeping your ankles healthy and you in the game. According to research, the Active Ankle rigid brace performed best in a range of motion test when compared to tape and lace-ups. So although you may perceive the rigid brace to slow you down, look past that and look at the facts and give it a try.

Can I sprain my ankle wearing an ankle brace?

While your injury will be far less severe wearing rigid ankle braces versus not wearing braces at all, it is a possibility. With an ankle brace, you may experience a day to a week of down time depending on the severity of the injury, without bracing you are usually looking at 6 weeks out from your normal activity.

Where can I purchase Active Ankle braces?

We have retail locations across the country. Please see our retail finder for a store near you.

Which rigid brace is the best for me?

All of our rigid braces provide great support; it really depends on personal preference. We have several choices depending on your support needs, your comfort preferences, visit each rigid product for the features and benefits to see which is best for you.

Which brace has the most protection?

As far as maximum protection, the rigid braces are your best bet-the T1, T2, or Volt. They maintain their protective integrity throughout the duration of activity.

Will the Active Ankle brace fit my shoe?

Absolutely. We recommend a low top shoe or athletic shoe for best fit, but many of our braces, especially the lace-ups, will fit in other types of shoes as well.

Do the ankle braces come in pairs or are they sold individually?

Each brace is sold individually not as a pair.

Do I need to wear the braces on both ankles or is it okay to wear a brace on just one?

This is an individual decision. Those who only wear one usually only use the brace as protective gear after an injury, those who wear braces on both ankles usually wear them for preventative reasons.

How do you recommend cleaning the rigid braces?

We recommend that you hand wash the pads and straps as needed and then allow them to air dry.

Why does the T1 have two straps and the T2 have one strap, it doesn't make sense?

The T1 was our first brace design with two straps for a more customizable fit. When we came out with our next brace, naturally we called it T2 because it was our second brace, but on this model we had consumer feedback looking for a brace that would be quicker to put on, thus the one strap.

Will ankle braces cause my ankles to weaken?

There is no evidence that suggests that ankle bracing weakens the ankle. Our ankle braces are not engineered to be so restrictive that the ankle cannot function on it's own. The brace is only there for a support. It allows your normal range of motion. In fact, having tape or ankle braces on a body part usually increases proprioception-your body's awareness of where it is in space-and therefore makes your body more quickly able to respond to outside forces. You can still injure your ankle while wearing braces, but the injury will be far less serious than if you did not have a brace on. We also must stress the importance of strength and conditioning as part of your regimen if you are concerned about your ankles becoming weak.

Will an ankle brace cause a knee injury if the force is strong enough?

There is no evidence to prove that is the case. If the force is strong enough to cause a knee injury and the circumstances are correct, you will suffer a knee injury regardless if you are wearing the Active Ankle braces or not. Thus, they are not a cause for knee injury, but for prevention of ankle injuries.

Recent studies have shown no significant increase in the occurrence or severity of knee injuries. Wearing ankle braces has no direct correlation to knee injuries. These same studies do show a decrease in ankle injuries to those who wear ankle braces.

Lace-Up FAQs

What is the difference between a lace-up brace and a rigid brace?

Rigid braces offer the highest level of preventative and post injury support while maintaining the full range of motion to perform at the most competitive level. Lace-up braces are the most affordable preventative support without sacrificing comfort or freedom of movement for athletes at all levels.

How long can I expect my Active Ankle lace-up brace to last?

Lace-up soft-sided braces are a one-season brace and will need to be replaced possibly more than once a year especially if you are a multi-sport athlete.

How are Active Ankle braces sized?

Lace-up braces are sized by shoe size. Although if you have a half shoe size or on the borderline between sizes, always go down a size for the best fit due to the soft tissue and ankle anatomy.

Will the Active Ankle brace fit my shoe?

Absolutely. We recommend a low top shoe or athletic shoe for best fit, but many of our braces especially the lace-ups will fit in other types of shoes as well. Our Direct Kick lace-up is designed specifically to fit in a soccer cleat.

Where can I purchase Active Ankle braces?

We have retail locations across the country. Please see our retail finder for a store near you.
